Are You a Wantrepreneur or An Entrepreneur?

Unlike 40 years ago, being an entrepreneur is considered cool.

So, everyone wants to call themselves entrepreneurs, or worse, CEOs, even if they don’t make any money.

It would be like me calling myself a football player. I play football with my friends frequently, but I don’t make any money doing it! So, putting “football player” in my LinkedIn title would look plain stupid.

If someone calls themselves the “CEO” of a “company” (of 1 person) that gives backflip lessons in exchange for a twenty dollar bill, then this is a big red flag that signals “WANTrepreneur,” or freelancer at best.

I used to be a fake entrepreneur too, though. When I began my career as a personal trainer two years ago, I called myself an “entrepreneur,” even displaying it proudly on my Instagram profile. Sure, I worked for myself, but I was merely a freelancer trading my time and craft for money.

There are so many people who call themselves “entrepreneurs” when they are really freelancers.

There are so many people who call themselves a “CEO” when they don’t even run a company at all.

There are so many people who call themselves “success coaches” when they themselves are not even close to reaching success.

There are so many people who call themselves “motivational speakers” when all they do is speak at random events. They never actually do anything. And at the events, all they do is spit regurgitated fake motivation that does nothing for nobody, of course.

These people are imposters, and they are devaluing their respective titles not just for themselves but for everyone else who uses them. It’s tragic, really.
