For most of my life, I would feel devastated whenever I got dumped. It happened every time without failure, no matter the length of the relationship. The first time I got dumped, in freshman year of high school, I unnecessarily fell into a pit of misery for multiple years. Every relationship that ended after that still put me in dark places emotionally, although it never lasted more than a month or two.

However, in my most recent relationships, I’ve wised up to something funny, and that is the fact that all events are neutral. Events are not inherently positive or negative by nature. What makes these events positive or negative is the way we interpret the events. Meaning matters most. And we will never heal from any troublesome event unless we change the meaning that we attach to it.
